Press release - SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL MERCHANTS
For immediate release
A dynamic and original buy local online platform to
support businesses in Memphremagog’s MRC
March 26 2020 – XILO Proximity, member of Magog Technopole’s IT community, in cooperation with OLIX, the city of Magog, the Memphremagog Chamber of Commerce, CAE Memphrémagog and Entreprendre Memphrémagog (the economic development branch of the MRC), are launching the Buy local plateform L’ACHAT LOCAL, that allows local businesses to offer their products on-line and invest in the local economy whether it be in the food industry (grocery stores), restaurants or retail.
The plateform www.lachatlocal.com is much more than a website. It’s a portal where merchants can showcase and promote their products while at the same time offering a simple way to manage their online presence. It’s a great way for the community to invest in local businesses. Whether it’s to have a your groceries prepared, a take out dinner or just to shop for a gift card, the consumer will have all his favourite merchants at his finger tips even during the ongoing crisis.
This portal allows merchants to accept payments and receive them straight into their accounts without additional fees. Each merchant has access to a personalized portal where modifications can be made to the products offered online in a simple and efficient manner.
To accompany local entrepreneurs in the integration of this technology many partners are joining forces in this inclusive and exceptional project : the city of Magog and Entreprendre Memphrémagog will support media initiatives, the CAE will assume the costs of implementation, the Chamber of Commerce is networking to bolster the initiative and Magog Tecchnopole is coordinating and financing the project.
“The basis of our idea was to build a portal where local businesses could sell gift cards online so that they could have a new stream of revenue... until business gets back to normal, says Gary Denault of OLIX and XILO. But we quickly realized that the need was far greater than we thought. After a few calls with local economic development agencies and Magog Technopole, it was clear that we had to grow our project to make it accessible to as many of the local businesses who wanted to join.”
The idea evolved over the weeks and by talking to local businesses it became clear that a good number of them were having problems taking orders over the phone and getting paid at the time the order was placed. The platform takes charge of these two problems at once.
“We wanted to offer a simple, efficient and complete solution, says Gary Denault. Which is why the architecture of this ecosystem is designed so that local merchants will have a transactional site of their own once the current crisis is over. For now, the platform is free for all businesses of the Memphrémagog MRC who want to sell their products online,”adds Denault.
A few local businesses are already using lachatlocal.com. « We invite all members and businesses of Memphrémagog to use this new channel to sell their products. Promotional efforts will be deployed to invite consumers to use the platform to shop and buy local,» says Marie-Josée Cornay, administration and communications coordinator for the Memphrémagog Chamber of Commerce.
« During this extraordinary period, all means, whether big or small, are put in place to help our business community stay active and keep functioning. The quick deployment of this portal shows great teamwork from the socioeconomic community of the MRC. We wish that consumers now use this new tool to support local businesses, » states Jean Hogues, director of economic development for the Memphrémagog MRC.
Local business owners are invited to create their online profile for free at https://lachatlocal.com/pages/ajoutervotrecommerce. After registering, an account executive will get in touch to finalize their online presence.
OLIX Group allows small businesses to access the power and performance of rewards programs generally reserved for large companies. XILO Proximity specializes in geolocation and proximity management. Olix Group has its headquarters in Magog, in Magog Technopole’s incubator and also has an office in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
